Would Like Advised - Files From Hijackthis - What Files Should I Get Rid Of

977 views 11 replies 4 participants last post by  Flrman1

Hi, I've been having trouble with this computer running slowly and noticed the file Cxtpls.exe using up a lot of our cpu usage so I searched on yahoo and found this site and read some threads, took the advise and d/l'ed Hijackthis. I have a list of a couple of the same files I noticed that, that person had and am getting ready to follow the directions on those, but I would really like advised on some other program files that are bogus on my system. I do know this computer has a few viruses we are unable to get rid of even after having Trend Micro PC-cillin, Norton Antivirus, and Spyware Killer. Thanks a lot for any help!

You've got 2 antivirus programs(Norton and Trend) installed and running at the same time, so you're asking for trouble. They'll fight each other and can bring your computer to a halt.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You've got some spyware and other "nasties", such as

salm.exe

MediaAcck.exe

tsm2.exe

so you need to make use of

Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 RC2b

CWShredder 2.14

All 3 can be downloaded from the spyware tools section at www.majorgeeks.com

After Ad-Aware and Spybot are installed, make sure to run their update function and get them up-to-date with the latest files. After they've been updated, run a full system scan with Ad-Aware and delete everything it finds, then run a scan with Spybot and delete everything in red it finds.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You've got too many unnecessary programs running in the background, so you need to trim down the startup list.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Do a "search" in files and folders and delete EVERYTHING that appears under

*.TMP

C:\TEMP\*.*

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*

It's all junk, so get rid of it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Run another scan with HijackThis, then select and fix the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {B195B3B3-8A05-11D3-97A4-0004ACA6948E} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

A lot more needs to be fixed, but get rid of these for now.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Trimming down the startup list needs to wait until you deal with the other problems.

You're going to need someone with more experience than me to help you with your log.

In the meantime, do what I advised, then post a new log.

Thanks again. I have now gotten rid of norton and only have micro trend running. I have also d/l'ed & ran Spybot, Ad-Aware Personal, and CW Shedder (CW Shedder luckily didn't find anything). I have also gotten rid of all the start up programs I don't really need. Thanks again for sure. Heres my latest run of HijackThis:

hey thanks for the help. I think I'm noticing the same files I have deleted coming up again and wasn't sure if it something I'm doing or something I can set to ensure I won't keep getting these files. Here is my current HT log.
Thanks again for any help,
CR

* Go here to download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

* Click Here and download the the new version of Killbox and save it to your desktop.

* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to.

* Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Tsa2] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsm2.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Mw7pRTaEX] mf3svpia.exe

* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

* Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mf3svpia.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmdpx32r.exe

C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe

C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsm2.exe

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

Exit the Killbox.

* Find and delete these folders:

C:\Program Files\CxtPls
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdatexe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa

* Start Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner

* Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

* Restart back into Windows normally now.

* Go here and download Microsoft Antispyware Beta. First in the top menu click File then Check for updates to download the definitons updates.

After updating look in the right side of the main window under "Run Quick Scan Now" and click Spyware scan options. In that window put a tick by Run a full system scan and then put a check by all three options below that then click Run Scan now.

When the scan is finished, let it fix anything that it finds. Have it quarantine the items that have that option rather than delete just in case.

Restart your computer.

* Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.
- Save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan
