Are you reinstalling over a system which already had Service Pack 2 applied? If so, try formatting the disk and start with a clean basis on which to put the new installation.

I am not trying to install over an exsisting operating system at all.

I will take your advice and reformat the disk again and start from scratch.

I will let you know what happens.

I checked the memory sticks.....and guess what......one of the memory sticks was not compatible with the other. As soon as I removed the last stick inserted the setup process went as normal and I installed Win XP Pro without any problems.
It was a memory problem all along! Thanks again to you and everyone who tried to help.
