I've been setting up my mom's new computer for her. It has windows 11 on it 🙁
Somehow when I started to put all her files from her old computer to new one, (documents, desktop, pictures), they ended up on one drive instead.
How can I move them back to her local drive in said folders instead? Then how can I remove them from one drive?
I had no idea they were being saved to one drive instead, as I was dragging them from her flash drive to appropriate folder on what I thought was her local folders.
Windows 11 is all new to me.
Now it's saying "almost out of storage" (with hardly anything in it compared to my own computer), and prompting us to 'buy' a subscription....
UGH!!!!
Thank you.

Install the OneDrive app through the Microsoft Store or go to OneDrive on the internet using her Live mail account you can see what is stored on OneDrive online. It's all a little confusing because the OneDrive folders are on the hard drive and the internet depending on what you have the folders set to. OneDrive use to be a separate thing but it would cause duplication as the files would be in there folders on the hard drive and folders in the separate OneDrive folders but at least you could choose what was saved online. So now the files are on the hard drive but also stored on the internet using space. If you want everything in the OneDrive folder backed up on the internet then you need enough space which you may have to purchase. Microsoft needs to explain the process better. I myself have my files stored in OneDrive folders and folders under C:users and synch then with an app. It uses up twice the space but this way the files I want are always available even off-line.

FWIW onedrive (along with cortana, and turning OFF as much info sharing as possible) are the very first things I do when setting up a system. The ONLY backup I trust is the one I have physical possession of said backup. While it is OK to have an extra backup on the cloud, it should NOT be a primary backup. A second internal drive, an external drive, or a NAS would be a MUCH better option than onedrive.
One last piece of advice; no backup is worth anything until you validate your ability to restore the backup.
