i cannot find the directory in which my 600 inbox messages are stored

i wish to back them all up as a precaution against operating system or hard disk failure but can't find them anywhere.

in eudora, there is a directory for the inbox and attachments/downloads

any suggestions

thank you for your prompt response to my questions of the location of my inbox files in outlook express...

i found the inbox dbx file.... with a large file name with nonsensical numbers and letters...

i presume that this is the file to back up.

can the contents of this file be added to another dbx file? ie merging two inbox files ???

thanks again.

yeah, don't know which techie at MS picked that way to id a file

you can't really merge 2 files per se

you can import messages
file
import
then follow the wizard
- i've never liked this way, it doesn't seem to pick up the folder names i use - only inbox and outbox - not other created folders

laborious way:
create a new folder in OE ('newfolder')
close OE
copy the dbx file you want to 'merge' into the nonsensical identities folder (let's refer to it as merge.dbx)
rename newfolder.dbx to newfolderX.dbx
rename merge.dbx to newfolder.dbx
open OE, the 'merged' emails should be in the newfolder folder

basically create a folder so a dbx file is created, then replace that dbx file with one oyu want to import/merge, after you rename it

experiment a bit, not so difficult once you get the hang of it

a good reference is this site[/I]
