I am not sure this is a Windows 11 software or hardware issue.
This is what happened about 20-30 minutes ago. (Typing this on a Chromebook.)

I used my Asus Vivobook laptop yesterday. No issues at all. I even checked updates. there wasn't any. I shut it off. I always do that til next time. It starts right away after I enter PIN.
Today, I pressed the power button. (The laptop is always connected to surge protector and I use a cordless keyboard and an ancient corded trackball.)

The screen showed my name and my outlook email address underneath. I entered my 4 digit PIN. I clicked the 'show pin' icon to make sure the numbers were correct. The screen turned black and stayed black! A white mouse cursor is on the screen. I am able to move it with Logitech trackball and trackpad. Waited a while. Nothing. When I press left button on trackball it is making the usual sound. when I unplug the power cord, the words 'on battery' briefly comes to screen. Plug it, the words 'plugged in' stay on the screen few seconds.
The function keys on built-in keyboard work. Sound, brightness, etc. (The screen shows all that.)
F8 shows a list. PC screen only selected. the other options are dublicate, extend, second screen only.

I pressed Ctrl-alt-delete. 4 options:
lock, switch user, sign out, task manager and cancel.

I selected 'switch user'. The first screen is back. Icon (that I came up with), my name, my outlook .com email address. A box with letters PIN is there. When I select 'I forgot my pin' it does not give me the option to enter my password. I was also hoping the PC would ask me to enter bitlocker code (I saved that).

Selecting 'I forgot my pin' is bringing a white window with words Microsoft account at upper left corner. There are the words 'Just a moment' and a bunch of blue dots circling.
I wait and wait. It finally shows 'You'll need internet for this. it does not look like you're connected to internet. Check your connection and try again.
Two options; Retry and cancel. Retry does the same thing.

The laptop is connected to internet thru wifi. I noticed the icon at the right bottom of the screen.

Is this a Windows 11 sign-in issue or some sort of video card problem? (I assume not a video card problem. The sign-in screen is there.
Maybe, W11 just starts up and ready to go.But, the screen is somehow black! Only guessing here.

What are my next steps? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am responding right away. I managed to solve this without any clue!!
After selecting 'switch user', a sign-in screen was on the screen. I clicked 'power' icon on right lower corner with options. I selected 'restart'. Then, I carefully entered my 4 digit pin. It started right away!!
What a relief.
I am hoping the wise guys and ladies will comment on this and teach me what caused this problem. In case it happens again and restart won't work.
Thanks again.
