Hi guys. I was just wondering, is it possible to remove the windows logon window when window starts up? I mean, when windows starts up, there is a window with two spots to type in the user name and password. I don't want to delete the user name because the computers are on a network and they need to know what computer they are, I just want to disable the window from showing up, because it's annoying. I want it to go straight into the account (student 1-10) without showing the window. Thanks.

Do a find->files or folders. Then look for *.pwl. Delete all thes files. Reboot. This will in essence recreate the pwl so It will then prompt you for changing your WIndows password, just null it (leave it blank). That should do it.

Machines network based on computername and sharename not username so in a workgroup deleting and recreating the username should not matter. Username would only be relevant in a domain where the actual account would be kept on a server.

The computer identification is in the network panel, the window login window is cause someone logged in with a user name and password.
You should be able to put a different user name in the box, no password and click ok. Nest time you reboot, it should just go to the desktop without a login screen and you will still see it in the network as your computer name has not changed in the network panel.

Wait a Minute !!!

The user is on a Network !! If she/he
goes and kills the password (.pwl) she
will have to go and get re-set by the
Network Admin.

Oh well, job security.....

AFAIK in the Windows world and from my own experiences either on a workgroup (which this seems like it is) or in a domain the local user account on the local machine has nothing to do with shares on a network.

The accounts either rest on a server and in a Win 9x (since this is a 9x subject area and nothing else was mentioned) workgroup the shares would be password specific.

I've never had a problem deleting the pwl in a domain or a workgroup.

OR
Right-click on the Network Neighborhood Icon

Click the arrow next to Primary Network Logon.
Click Windows Logon.

Click NO.

Double-click Passwords.
Click the Change Passwords tab

Click Change Windows Password.
Click OK.
In the Change Windows Password dialog box, type your current Windows password in the Old Password box.
Leave the New Password and Confirm New Password boxes blank.
Click OK.
Click OK.
Click the User Profiles tab and VERIFY that the All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings option is selected.

Click Close.

Shut down and restart Windows 95/98.

Thankyou very much for the tip infokarma. I found this just surfing through the posts. I did exactly like you said to do and it worked like a charm. Saves a few seconds on bootup, and one less thing to have to click on. Always looking for such things. Thanks again, Todd.
