As my colleague Flavallee has said, we could do with a screenshot of disk management

Although the change of cable may have caused the change in drive letter

F: 1862 GB (640 GB Free);

It should not PREVENT you seeing the files on the drive by accessing the drive via file explorer
it may indeed cause problems if any apps are looking for something that is to them on the drive lettered D

My advice is to follow Flavallee`s recommendations. He is as you can see a Trusted Advisor and with over 21 years on this site and over 86,0000 posts.
He willl see you right on this

It it does, what drive letter is assigned to it?

The F: drive is a 2 tb SSD. It used to be the D: drive the C: drive is a 2 tb drive. Both are internal drives. the drop down does not even offer a D: designation. The paths for everything on that SSD is D: ...

Advising someone to change the assigned letter(C) of the drive which contains the Windows operating system is BAD advice.

 

This wasn't referring to the C drive. They said their D drive changed to F.
My image shows how to change this back.

 

You should follow these steps:
Type cmd in the Windows search box, right-click on "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as administrator".

Type chkdsk f: /f and hit Enter.


CHKDSK command will fix your corrupted SSD once it finds any corruption on the drive.

A novice user probably wouldn't know that changing the assigned letter of that drive to D isn't a good decision.

 

What is Disk 3? Is it an optical drive (CD/DVD)? You can change its drive letter to something else to free up the D designation you want to use.

i reloaded the management page, with the flash plugged in. I see it is designated as E:.

OK, some drive has been assigned D:. Try to assign the 2TB drive something like J. Reboot and check again to see if you either see a D: drive, or have D available in the drop down.

disc 4 is a removable HD that I have my backups on. I could'nt remember the drive leter so I plugged it in just to see

 

That's not an error message, just a warning. You are expecting that drive to be D:, so it's already not right. Go ahead.

 

I changed it to H: and rebooted, no D in the dropdown

I changed the letter for the removable drive, and that made the letter D available, and it's fixed!! Thank you to everyone that helped!

Above your first post in this thread, but below the black bar, on the right-hand side, you will see a "kebab" menu (three vertical dots). Click that and select edit. You will see a drop down in front of the thread title that says "Prefix". Drop that and "Solved" should be one of your options.
