Solved: Can i access\backup files from parallel XP installation through Win 98

Hi all!
My pc at home has been out of business for a few weeks now because it will not boot into XP (I think a virus).

I have a parallel installation of Win 98 which will boot but I can not see the other C: or F: drive where I have XP installed, in My Computer, and where all my photos etc are saved (stupidly). All it shows is the 2gb in which it rests.

Question is...is there a way to access the files on XP, which I assume are on a different partition from Win 98, through 98. Then I could reformat the hdd and reinstall XP (ps I don't have the XP disc now so cannot get into Recovery)

Please help as I am getting desperate!

If the other partitions are NTFS then Win98 will not see them and therefore you cannot get any data off them.
Re XP: Have you tried booting to Safe Mode?

Thank you for your reply...that is helpful.
Unfortunately safe mode will not boot either. If I buy another copy of XP Pro, do you think that would be the way to go?

Download and burn yourself a copy of Knoppix.
Boot from the Knoppix CD and you will be able to access all drives, as long as they are not damaged.

Boot into the Windows 98 partition and download NTFS For Windows 98 Install it and you'll be able to access any NTFS partition.
