Sims 2 freeze up: Ok, I've tried some things, but:

The game keeps freezing up during play. It does not happen at any consistant time. It can be any neighborhood or with any family. It freezes up and nothing will move. Generally, we can escape the game doing ctrl/alt/delete and ending the task. Sometimes we have to shut off the power to reboot. Here is our system:

Amd Athlon 64 3200 2.2ghz
512 MB DDR/Pc3200
Win XP media
128 MB DDR Nvidia Geforcefx
Integrated 5.1 Sound card

We have updated the drivers for the video card and updated directx. What could the problem be? Is 512 MB enough memory? Could it be the integrated sound card? We are at a loss. We have uninstalled and re-installed the game. That does not solve the problem. Any help?

Thanks for the input Dunphy. Actually, I'm pretty hip on computers and figured the ram might be the problem. I went into the taskmgr and ended all unnecessary programs and so far sims2 has not locked up on. I think I'll buy a couple 1gb memory sticks. 2gb should about do it hopefully. I appreciate your feedback. We were getting frustrated for a while there.

back when i had 512 MB of ram the game would freeze up for a few seconds every now and then. it was real sluggish during play mode... (not so much in build- which is what i did most of the time) i would recommend buying some more ram, but make sure you know what kind you need... maybe take your computer to a computer store, or if you wanna take the chance of breaking the stick of ram... take it out of your computer and bring it to Best Buy or some electronics store ( or even a computer store if you dont wanna have the hassel of bringing your whole computer to them ) and ask them if they could get you a stick of either another 512 (would probably be best for the money... anything more would get to be expensive, and im not too sure if 768 is enough) i recently upgraded to 2 gigs, and it runs fine. If thats not the problem, sorry. maybe you could take the computer and get everything upgraded, not sure. but good luck :)

[EDIT] try turning the video/sound settings down too, before you go out and buy anything
