First remove the current driver via add/remove programs. Reboot. Now install the video driver. I would also check your chipset/mb driver; you may need to reinstall that prior to installing the video driver.

Hi,

The system is now seeing my external scsi hard drive on boot-up,
as a fleeting mention on the back and white screen.

It also appears in device manager under disk drives, as CDC-94191-15.
And also appears in the hardware wizard, which tells me that its working properly.

It doesn't appear in "My Computer"
and it doesn't appear anywhere in "Windows Explorer".

I don't see how i can read from it, or write to it,
unless i can get it to appear on the desktop.

It seems the PC can see it, but wont show it to me.
Any help or advice please ...

John :)

About the only ideas I have are to check device mgr for any yellow marks/drivers not installed and to test the drive with the drive maker's utility for checking drives. You download this from whoever made the drive, ie IBM, Maxtor, WD, Seagate, etc.

Okay, i'll check that out.

If you put an scsi drive,
onto a PCI-scsi card,
where would you expect to see it show up ?

I would expect to see it in "My computer"
and i would expect to find it with "Windows Explorer".

I don't know that i expect that any more.
Got some more reading to do.

John :)

The drive is showing up in 'Manage' (of My Computer), as Disk 1, unallocated.
It seems to me this may be because it has been in use on my Apple machine.
I will dig out another SCSI hard drive unit, and format it accordingly,
hopefully this will then work as expected.

Hi Y'all,

As i don't want to format this particular ext hard drive, i've been up to my attic and sorted out from
the collection of bits, another scsi ext hard drive unit. Its 9gig and its formatting now. This is not
fast, its up to 30 per cent, thats taken about five minutes.

So it looks like the PCI-scsi card 2940-UW is actually working fine, the problem was i didn't know how
to drive it.

Now i suppose i should start to check out the graphics card. After i ran in Aspi32 it stopped working.
Its complained about Code 10, i think.

Best regards to you all, John :)

Hi,

After formatting, the external drive shows up fine.
After some messing about, i have finally managed to set a folder to 'Sharing'.
It took me so long because i was trying to set a drive to 'Sharing', however it seems that Win2000
will not set a drive to sharing, but it will set a folder to sharing. I did not know that. I just
tried on the off-chance to set a folder, and it worked. It doesn't matter that much that i can't
set the drive to sharing, i will just set the folders within it.
But it did get me a bit confused, wondering what i was doing wrong.

So here is a pic, of the external scsi drive showing on my 'Gateway 7200'.

Now i spose i should worry about the graphics card ...

Cheers, John :)
