I am having trouble navigating the TSG site. I have a problem with an unwanted download of 360Total Security which I cannot get rid of. Where do I get help?

John, I've split your post off from an older thread and moved it to the General Security forum for help with this issue.

If you've having problems navigating TSG you can start a new thread in the Site Help, Feedback and Announcements forum and explain in more detail the issues you're having navigating this site.

These hard-to-remove anti-malware applications are not per se malware themselves but neither are the developers all that interested in you uninstalling them. I've found Revo Uninstaller to be effective at removing them. Boot into Safe Mode then use the advanced function of Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the app. Note that Revo is going to point you to folders, file remnants, and Registry keys so you need to be careful and understand what you are doing before deleting stuff.

Revo should find the app to uninstall even if Windows can't. However, if Revo can't even find it then you may have to hunt down and delete everything manually.

Revo Free in Safe Mode should be able to uninstall most programs. However, it may fail if an app has locked itself out of the normal Windows uninstall path. Some anti-malware suites do this, you can't even end their running tasks. The developers of these apps purport to do this so that malware can't easily circumvent them but I think that they also want to make it hard to uninstall their apps so that people will just give up and continue to use them.

There are utilities that can unlock these locked processes and files but since malware also attempts similar actions and the free shareware versions or the unlocker apps contain the usual bloatware (which can be prevented from installing but you have to be careful to do this) they are usually isolated by your anti-malware app as potentially unwanted programs themselves. Therefore, we are probably getting beyond the comfort zone of the average computer user here. Thus, if Revo fails to uninstall the anti-virus application in Safe Mode then it might actually be best to let one of the anti-malware techs handle the uninstall for you.
