I downloaded and set up the Microsoft Teams through the expired Skype app, but each time I activate the application, it takes a few minutes to load and says "Installing Microsoft Teams" when you hover over the app icon on the Windows 11 taskbar. What can I do to make it simply bring up the app when clicked on, rather than doing a new install?

Also, there are other account entities on the initial account page. How can I make such that only one account user is shown when you are asked to select which user account to bring up?

1. I am sorry that you have not received further replies

2. I am sure your best way forward is
Skype is retiring in May 2025: What you need to know - Microsoft Support

perhaps especially because of this
Your Skype data will be available until January 2026 for you to export or delete. If you log in to Microsoft Teams Free by then, your Skype call and chat history will be available to you. If you take no action, your Skype data will be deleted January 2026.

3. This will also help
Moving from Skype to Microsoft Teams Free - Microsoft Support

4. You should already have teams installed on windows 11
so that when you clicked
In Skype, you will receive a notification which will prompt you to sign in to Microsoft Teams. Select Start using Teams to begin downloading or to open Teams if already installed.

it sould not have needed to download it, it should have opened it.

5. Perhaps the best way forward is to uninstall TEAMS if yhou did download it
Then go here
Microsoft Teams Free help - Microsoft Support

start again with TEAMS and
Skype retired in May 2025. You can sign in to Teams Free with your Skype account to access your chats and contacts.

6. If that does not work post the details of your system
Please click the link below for your operating system to download the TSG SysInfo Utility. Click on "Save File" then double-click the file to run it. Copy and paste the report in your initial post. Windows 7 and later (downloads a file named tsginfo.exe)

I have installed and uninstalled 2 or 3 times after clicking on the old Skype link, which offers the option to download MS Teams from there. It still took about 3 mintues to bring up the app, whereas historically the Skype app usually took about 20 seconds to bring up. Well, here's the computer info that you requested:

I tried #1 from above (turning off the VPN), but that had no effect. As for #2, I typed in "%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams" to the run dialog box, but it did not find it. And for #3, I was unable to find the executable files that it recommended to added to the exclusions list. Please help.

I tried Method #1 on the link, but the result was the same, and strangely, none of the data (i.e., the standard, recorded chats and recent meeting records) was lost after I reset the app. I then ran the command in the run dialog box and deleted the folders and files, as directed. I shut down the app, and even restarted the computer, but I got the same result. It actually took close to 2 minutes and 12 seconds to bring up the app, with the same message that it was downloading and installing the app. I remember reading somewhere that a deployment package might be to blame for this, but I was unable to find it to be able to delete it.

Sorry - cannot help with any further suggestions
I do not have knowledge of this deployment package, so anything I posted would simply be the result of a web search

I did get one warning after launching MS Teams. Here's the Event Viewer system log (redacted and simplified by me):

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{...}
and APPID
{...}
to the user DESKTOP-... from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container MSTeams_25153.1010.3727.5483_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Also, there are other account entities on the initial account page, and I wonder if perhaps that might be causing a re-installation process, rather than simply launching the application.

I fixed the problem, and the solution was quite simple. After running the MS Teams program, I then brought up Task Manager, going to the "Details" tab. From there, I right clicked on the executable file and clicked on "Open file location". Lastly, I right-clicked, clicked on "Show more options", and created the short-cut. Problem solved!

I was making the mistake of creating a short-cut file from the file that was created in the download folder of Windows Explorer, WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THE INSTALLER PROGRAM. Ergo, it would always re-install every time the short-cut was clicked on. Finding the actual executable file, as explained in the above-paragraph, was the key.

How to mark a thread solved.

Above your first post in this thread, but below the black bar, on the right-hand side, you will see a "kebab" menu (three vertical dots). Click that and select Edit Thread. Click where it says "No prefix". "Solved" should be one of your options.

Real simple, huh? Who needs a dedicated button that does this in a single mouse click? ;-)
