Are you sure version 2 isn't the firmware version? I have only hear of a WRE54G I have never heard of a version 2 of the same model. Even the linksys website -

Does not mention anything as a version 2 except the firmware.

 

As far as everyone from Linksys has said, it is indeed a version 2. I've even read on the net on review sites where people say they had the same thing. My router has the model number, then Version 4 after it, it's just like that for this range expander.

 

Well seems your right I did a search and a bunch of V2 posts are on there on top of that I checked my home linksys and saw a V number as well I didn't realize the hardware varied as well as the firmware.

I am thinking your gonna have to do some leg work and just go to local stores due to this comment I found on one site - I wouldn't risk buying it online thats for sure.

confusingly enough, has the same product ID number, but, as others have noted, includes a different image on the front with an ethernet connection.

Hi, I just talked to the tech support people at Linksys for quite a while and then infurated with there ignorance I decided to call the Sales Dept figuring that the people in sales would be more inclined to help me if they thought I was going to buy something. So the idiots in tech support told me that Version 2 of the WRE54G was out and widely available and the American in Sales told me that it was no where to be found, they have no clue where the version 2's are. They dont know when if even they are coming out. and he said an easy way to identify if one of these Range Expanders is version 2 is to look on the front for an Ethernet port which he said the would have. This is not just a Firmware update. The whole WRE54G thing seems to have been one of Linksys biggest mistakes so far. Props to anyone with one of the 3 routers that version 1 is compatible with, I have a newer Linksys WRV54G which works amazingly but is completely incompatible with the Version 1 of the WRE54G. Hope this post helps someone whos looking for answers.

I had the sampe experience with linksys support. Couple of months ago I called support when I had trouble configuring version 1 of WRE54G. Support could not help and I ended up returning the product back to best buy. Linksys support said some best buy stores carry version 2. But I have yet to find one. Circuit city and Radio shack shops I have visited all carry version 1. The radio shack guy in my local store even said he doesn't recommend people buy wre54g.

I called linksys support today and they were not able to provide any information about which retailer or ecommerce site carrys version 2 of wre54g.

I have now sent a note to linksys sales to see if they can help.

If anybody knows where to get this product, please post your answer here or send me private mail.
