LCD monitor troubles

I just got a new computer, which included a 20 inch widescreen Dell flat panel monitor. It's been working great so far, but today it's been giving me a little lip...

My computer is set up (like most people) to use a screen saver after idling for a little while, and then after an hour it goes into energy saving mode. Today it went into energy saving mode twice, and both times when I moved the mouse to bring it back, the screen remained black and gradually faded all to white, and then back to black. The first time, I turned off the monitor and turned it back on, and it worked fine. The second time, I left the computer for several minutes, and when I came back it was working okay.

I have been putting my computer into standby at night lately without turning off the monitor. I suppose something inside could be heating up, so could that be the issue? Could it be a problem with the monitor? Should I contact Dell to get a new one?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone happen to have any comments on this? I've been thinking about it some more, and I'm not sure if it could be a problem caused by leaving the monitor on. I have a Dell at work as well, and I leave the flat panel monitors on 24/7 there as well. I have never had a problem with the monitors doing this.

I'd contact Dell for a new monitor. It's either the monitor or the video board I would imagine, and the oddball fade to white then black screams monitor to me.
