In Internet Explorer, when I right-click an image ("Save picture as"), the image can only be saved in .bmp format, even when the original image is in .jpg format.

My first thought on this is set the file association for jpg to IE Explorer and any other formats you want IE to open.
I had this problem on my Win98 machine. Usually a reboot would fix this glitch for me. It should be not permanent. If it is, try to see if you can upgrade your IE. Try it also on Netscape to see if you have the same problem.
If all else fail, Upgrade your OS, at least to 98SE.

I have win 92 second, all the latest updates, including IE Exp. and Mine will just let me save in jpg format. But then I check and that is all I have IE Explorer associated with.
