The guy who set up my new computer was supposed to do this but didn't so now I have to do it myself. I've been looking at instructions online and it's confusing. I also need to export my contacts.

If I read correctly you have to export them as a .csv file (not .pst).

I have exported my contacts to a contacts.csv file but I have several personal folders that have stuff in them that I want to transfer as well.

I'm on the old computer for now so I don't have to switch back and forth. Once I know how to export things I will put them on my external drive. Then if you can explain the procedure for importing everyting into Outlook 365 that would be great.

Also, My Outlook 365 is showing each email address down the left side and each one has their own inbox, sent, deleted, etc. In Outlook 2010 I only had one set of folders there and all emails came to the preview pain. I could see what email address they were sent to there.

The TSG Sysinfo won't help since I'm on the old computer but I can provide screenshots of the current set up if necessary.

Thanks. :)

It depends on how you have configured your email settings. You can use POP3, IMAP or Exchange/Office 365 types .
POP3 is simplest where all mail is delivered and stored in the Inbox, also the mail is stored in a file on your computer also which can be a PST (personal data file) . To migrate the mail, you need to note down the settings, and copy over the PST file (
IMAP is a more modern email system, and the mail is kept on the mail server, and just cached locally (OST file).
Exchange/Office365 is a more advanced system, whetre mail is also stored on a remote mail server, the mail also can be cached locally too to reduce time to when using it.

Any PST or OST file are stored in your profile's App data area. E.g. c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\name.pst or name.ost. Coped that file over to new PC.
If you have any signatures setup, copy those from c:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures.

Thanks Peter. I've decided I'm going to cancel my subscription to Office 365, I hate it so much. I am going to buy Microsoft Office Home and Business 2021 which is the last standalone version. I will need help with installing that but I will start a new thread for that. By the way, the outlook.pst file was copied to the Outlook Files folder in the Documents folder but the emails still don't appear. I really want the unified folders and it seems that's not possible with 365.

Peter and others,

I just read a couple of things of note.

Office 2021 - end of life is in October 2026 so not too far away after paying $319.00 for it.

Microsoft is planning on launching a 2024 standalone version which can be currently previewed in the DevMain channel.

Given both of the above I think the best thing to do would be to tough it out with 365 for now until the 2024 version comes out and then I'll be good for years to come.

So I would still like to pursue this. I have my contacts in a .csv file. Can I important that on its own?

He configured some of my emails as POP and some as IMAP. I don't know why he did that.

I'm not sure I under your instructions Peter. I would also mention that I haven't set up all of my email addresses because I have some I set up for my Dad and he has since passed away so I don't need those. That means I really don't want to or possible can't transfer all of the emails from the .pst if they don't all exist on the new Outlook 365. There are really only four email addresses I would want them for.

Thanks Peter. I'm on the old computer still retrieving things I forgot about so I'll do that. Plus, I needed a break because the new computer is driving me crazy. The display, everything is completely different. I am going to replace the Firefox profile contents with my old ones and hope that will fix some issues.
