Did you get your Transparent Background project working in Gimp ???

Probably not what you're looking for ... But I use Photoshop and occasionally make animated gifs
Frame by frame is a pain .... Sounds like that may what Gimp is trying to do ... ??? but AVI only ???

I don't know of any free video editor with the advanced capabilities of Gimp or PS Elements.

What do you want to do with video ...
Edit Camcorder videos ... Upload to YouTube ...
Add text .. Insert other videos ... Make DVDs ... etc ... ???

@ larryh10000:-

If you want a really simple, easy-to-use free video editor that produces surprisingly good results, have a look at Openshot:-

https://www.openshot.org/download/

Drag'n'drop functionality onto the timelines, with plenty of available editing tools & special effects. I've been using this for quite some time in Linux, and I'd recommend it to anyone for an easy-to-use solution.

It's cross-platform, with downloads available for Windows, MacOS & Linux.

Recommended.

Mike. ;)
