Usually it is 3 seconds approx on power saving mode and 6 seconds approx if that is turned off and on many phones cannot be altered

I do not have the samsung so I do not know if that method changes the setting you want

On my phone the method is to turn off the screen lock
It then goes not to swipe - if that was the method you had - but straight to home screen

I'm not sure this is possible. The short duration to swipe happens on the four Samsung devices I own (2 phones and 2 tablets). The delay is much longer on my Kindle Fire HD.
I'll do some searching later today and see if I can find anything.

I thought it might be a screen lock issue, but I couldn't see how to change it at first, it seemed set to swipe, and at first I couldn't see an option to turn it off after clicking on it....but then saw on the original menu at the bottom ,"none" ....so selected that and now, home screen comes up without swiping....problem solved, thanks! I'm just a bit slow sometimes and it was so annoying having the phone go off and having to put it back on each time. So thank you once again.

 

I suspect the short time of three seconds is to save power by turning off the display. You must not worry about what is on your phone because you have no security turned on.

Now the screen timeout is another matter. The screen turns off after the timeout. Currently mine is set to 30 seconds. It can be set in steps from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. Once in a while I get annoyed by the timeout and temporarily set it to 10 minutes. In any case it is not a big deal to unlock my Samsung S21 because I use its fingerprint scanner for that. It is quite reliable and fast. It only takes a fraction of a second to unlock.

 

MisterEd51. Yes I understand I've bypassed secure access, but I hardly ever leave home, and I have no landline so it's used as my home phone. I suppose I could consider the fingerprint option.... but again, I suspect I have to do that before the screen goes off. Just that I'm a bit slow and I got sick of the screen going off whenever I picked up the phone. And yes, screen time out is a different matter, and not the issue here. Thanks for your response. I will think about giving the fingerprint a go....best would be if the time on could be extended before lock screen goes...then I wouldn't have to beat the clock to unlock the screen....but it appears there is no way to do this other than turning it off altogether.

You must decide the risk and what steps you want to take.

I would recommend, whether you implement security or not, that you make a record of IMEI number - International Mobile Equipment Identiity
Option 1. Dial *#06# in your call keypad.
Option 2. Navigate to Settings and then tap About phone

That is a definite advantage to having the phone blocked.


Although most contract suppliers will block your phone without the IMEI number, some I believe only block the SIM - when supplying the phone number and not the IMEI number

Thank you, yes I am fully aware of that, and I am normally a very security-conscious person so I don't know why I haven't done it.... I guess one thing I am aware of, is that even with fingerprint, PIN, password or whatever on your phone there are hacks to get around all of those.... and for me the convenience of being able to access the phone quickly outweighed my concern over security.... I'm not someone who uses my phone for online banking or purchasing and I'm not a social media fanatic or anything like that....just one of the surprisingly few people who use it for phone calls and occasional texts. Having said that, I now realise that so many places now send verification codes to your phone and so that is a concern.... hence I have taken your advice and set up a fingerprint lock on the phone. Now my husband complains that if my phone rings he won't be able to answer it for me if I'm not around!

 

Sorry I didn't mean you literally told me to do that, but I was grateful for the suggestion as it made me rethink on security. The comment re my husband was only intended light-heartedly...not a serious issue! I've done the IMEI and also registered phone on Samsung. So thanks again. 😊

Yes, good point.... but he has his own phone as well, plus I have a PIN number on the phone which is a failsafe if fingerprint doesn't work
