Dazzle DVC80 not detected

My pc won't detect Dazzle when I plug the hardware into the USB port. The red light comes on, but the setup wizard says it must have a green light. It also says the unit must be powered ON, but there's no ON switch. I should mention that the install CD asked me to restart the pc after trying to install, but when I did, the program didn't finish installing, so I downloaded the drivers from driverguide.com. So now I have the .exe, but I'm left at the setup wizard, which won't detect the USB hardware piece that has the A/V jacks. Not sure what to do...

PS--I use XP, and I downloaded the XP drivers too, but it didn't help...

First of all , are u sure that the USB port is working? Try a different USB peripheral to make sure.
Second of all , when you plug in the Dazzle , does the " found new hardware " icon comes up?
If it doesn't , it's possible that there's not enought "juice" to power up the Dazzle.
Also are there any exclamation signs next to the USB controllers in Device Manager?
If the " found new hardware" wizzard does pop up when you plug in the Dazzle , then "feed " the drivers manualy.
If there was a half-*** installation, check the Device Manager and see if you have an entry for the Dazzle. If you do , remove it. Same goes with the software ( check Add/Remove programs in Control Panel)

The usb port works with my printer, so it works properly. Device manager doesn't show any question marks for usb or anything else. Dazzle isn't listed in device manager either. And when I plug the hardware in, a tone sounds, but the 'found new hardware' box doesn't come up. I can't imagine my system can't run Dazzle, I've got 2GHz cpu and 512 RAM. It's less than a year old. (Dazzle used to work on my old pc, which had way less ram and cpu speed, but the pc is now dead)

Is the printer up and running in the same time as the Dazzle? If it is, power it down and see.
I assume that you already tried to use the USB port that you use for printer right?
If not, well unplug printer and try that port.
Still no go, it's possible that Dazzle took a nose dive. Try it ( when you have a chance ) on a different puter. Same problem , then you know for sure.

I have XP....2.53 Ghz...1 Gig Ram....and Im having exactly the same problems as you.
I plug it in and it makes the encouraging beep (with 'No' Found New Hardware wizard popup)... and it says to check that the Device is connected Blah Blah Blah....
Since this I have lost Two USB ports my mouse is the only thing that works on the ports now ..before both my printer and cam worked on them
and when my machine drops into standby mode and I bring it back on my Keyboard and mouse no longer work as if not connected and I have to Restart my machine to fix the problem.
The only thing I have found out (at the moment) is that 'Dazzle' may not support 'USB 2.0' ( Is this what you have ) ?
I am in the process of finding the answer .. so keep checking back and we'll sort this out....OK ?
If you find out anything let me know......otherwise check back here occasionally.
Oh and by the way....it used to work on my machine....( I used it two or three times )

Please start your own thread for the problem. FYI, your problem is NOT the same as at_random, since his USB ports still function.

active95 has got you going on the right path, however lets backup a little.
Lets try getting a clean start at this problem.
#1 Remove all the software that was installed. (Add and Remove Programs in Control Panel) and restart your machine.
#2 According to Dazzle you must first restart your machine after installing your software, before connecting the DVC 80 to your USB port. Therefore install the software again and restart. The drivers will install to the windows folder during this process.
#3 After rebooting connect the DVC 80 and Windows should self-install the drivers.

The information above is from Dazzle's support site.

For your information I HAVE already started my own thread....
I was letting him know that he was not alone....and my ports also work but not with the DVC 80 or my Cam.....So I guess my problem is EXACTLY the same as his is'nt it....Einstein !!

Letting him know that he is not alone is all well and fine, but a word to the wise... that kind of an "attitude" is probably why not too many people responded to your thread. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar ;)

BTW, why don't you "bump" your thread up to the top and well see if we can trace down your problem too.

at_random - please give us an update on your situation and we will see if we can help further :)

If you're still having trouble with the USB ports then THIS software might help you tack down the problem. This monitoring software lets you view, log and analyze Universal Serial Bus device activity. It captures all the request blocks transferred from the Windows device driver to the host controller and back. Analyze the protocol between device and device driver.

Hope it helps... ;)

I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but when I run the setup program it says 'no hardware detected - setup will be terminated.' I tried running the setup both before and after the Dazzle hardware was plugged into the usb port. Again, when I plug it in a tone sounds, as if the pc is detecting it. But the light on the device is red, when it should be green. I even tried using a Windows XP patch (even though Dazzle claims to be compatible with XP), but the patch couldn't detect it either. So I have no idea what's going on.

Actually...after reading some reviews of Dazzle online, I think I'll just find a more reliable product. I haven't found a single positive review of Dazzle, and their customer support is pretty much non-existent. I at least got it to work on my old pc, but I never really got into it, and it sounds like it's a piece of crap. I'll change my question to this: assuming Dazzle's hardware will never work, what hardware will I need to capture video from my vcr onto my pc? (I'll research the software part)

Well, I don't really wanna purchase new software right now. I downloaded the 30 day trial version of Ulead Video, which won't detect my Dazzle hardware either, though it *does* list it as the source for video capture. So is there some hardware piece like Dazzle's that I can buy without any accompanying software? Like what about Firewire? (I'm still not familiar with what it does.) Keep in mind I'm capturing video from VHS tapes, not video from camcorder tapes...not sure it makes a difference.

The light does not have to be Green ...My Dazzle and my ports are now working fine and all I did was to uninstall Dazzle....updated all USB Ports and USB Hub Drivers (basically everything USB) (Using Device manager).......Then I connected the Dazzle hardware......Inserted the disk and installed as normal......then I had to restart my machine for the changes to take effect blah blah blah.....then I had to run the program as if I was going to use it and this is when you will see the message saying that you have to disconnect and then reconnect the device in order for the Drivers to be installed.....I did this (waiting for the disconnection beep before reconnecting it) and then up came that 'Found New Hardware' popup and all is now fine.....
I think it is very important to have the thing connected from the very beginning and only disconnect it when told to.....
and forget the light being Green.....my light is Red and its working fine.
Just go back to the beginning and do this and it should work fine........dont forget to update the drivers in device manager first.
Remove EVERYTHING related to Studio / Dazzle...and use Add / Remove programs not its Uninstal wizard.

After I restart my pc, the installation doesn't really continue...when I go to the DVC80DRV folder, there's no .exe program to run, so I can't actually run the program to test the device. Also, all my usb drivers were already up-to-date.

I bought the Ulead hardware and install package. Now, when I try to capture video, I get the error message "failed to build preview graph." Apparently, my vid card isn't compatible with the software. Is there a way to correct this without getting a new card?
