I have an Advent laptop which i have formatted many times before using the f10 feature with the partitioned hard-drive. However, today when i tried it i was given this error.

Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft Windows Vista

Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Partition: 2
Hard Disk: 79afdd3f (these numbers are diffrent with everybody else)

[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN ]

I hade previously partitioned my main hard-drive and installed windows 7 on it but have now taken it off and regrouped my hard-drive back to normal. I have checked and the recovery partition is still there.

You altered the Master Boot Record when you installed W7, they use a custom MBR to link all the partitions for these special features, unless you have or can get a copy of the original MBR for that model, you are out of luck.

There have been workarounds to fire off the factory restore for Dell PC's, not sure what to do for this manufacturer, if there is a forum for Advent, I suggest you ask on that forum.

Sorry I could not be of more help to you.

I ran into another thread about Advent PC's today

http://www.w00tw00t.co.uk/support/

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/advidx.htm ((In the UK, yes I know, but the info is valid for the most part....))

http://support.thetechguys.com/Search.aspx?Start=0&s=Advent computer

The above site should have relevant info, but you will need to input your exact model of Advent into the Search line here:

This is the free knowledge base available, the site also offers premium support.....you don't neccessarily have to register, but it may help, you don't have to use the premium support, either
http://support.thetechguys.com/Search.aspx

That should get you someplace.....
