ADA885 speakers not functioning

I have had these speakers for a number of years without any problems until now. When plugged in the display flashes the settings and the on/off pushbutton does not work. Also the speakers produce no sound. Has anyone experience this scenario before?

I can find nothing on ADA558 speakers. What is their brand name? Are these actual computer speakers? Where are you connecting them? Note that computer speakers typically have the required amplification electronics built into one of the speakers.

And are you saying these speakers were working fine with this computer, then suddenly stopped working?

I scrambled the numbers. It is an Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speaker System ADA885. They are connected to my desk top PC. They were working correctly with this PC for years until recently.

And you made no changes to how they are connected? That is, one day you woke up and they were not working?

Do they power up? If you connect headphones to the computer, do you hear anything?

They power up fine because the display flashes the current setting. When I plug in headphones all I hear is static.

Then that suggests the sound device in your computer has failed. I would try those speaker on another computer to be sure.
