Bit of a long shot this but...

I'm having a probblem with my Zoran SoftDVD software and it seems, from visiting the Zoran website, that the company has disowned it!!!

Basically, if I put a DVD into the drive, the software automaticalkly starts up as it should so it's obviousl;y detected that there's a DVD in the player.
But once the software tries to start playing the disc, it throws up an error message saying "DVD drive not ready or drive empty". It's the same with all my DVD discs but the drive itself is working fine with audio CDs and CD-ROMs.
I've tried re-installing the software but no joy. Any ideas on a fix or, failing that, any suggestions for some alternative free DVD software that I might try instead?

Thanks!

Hiya

What version of DirectX are you using?

What is it showing in the Device Manager? Go to Control Panel | System. Device Manager. Look for DVD or CDROM. You may need to expand it using +
Is there a yellow ! and also can you tell us the full name of your drive?

It seems to be an ongoing problem. Some have suggested reinstalling a scanner, interesting.

Also, whilst you're in Device manager, lets see what Display card you have.

Many people that have had problems have used other software instead, such as QI Cinemaster. Not really an answer, but lets try with the few ideas that I have posted at the top.

Hi Eddie,

Sorry it's taken so long to reply....Christmas and all that.

Right, here's the run-down:

- No yellow ! next to the listing for the DVD drive in Device Manager.
- The drive is a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-612S
- My display card is a INtel 810 Chipset Graphics Driver (I think!)
- Not sure, but I think I've got Direct X version 6.1 running

Also, I actually recently DID reinstall my scanner follwing a seperate problem but the DVD issue was there before that and is still there now!

Hope you can help!

Okay

To start with, lets upgrade your DirectX:

http://www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp

Also, when you looked at yoor video card, did it say anything like PV1.1, or something like that? You may have to rightclick on the name and choose Properties, though I would assume it shows up in the Device Manager.

Lets see if the DirectX does anything

btw, whereabouts in Yorkshire are you?

You might try thr following site - it has a utility to check your ASPI Layer and if found corrupted, missing, etc. and an update to install the latest. My DVD quit playing DVD's a while back for no apparent reason (was missing one of the ASPI files) and reloading new resolved the problem.
