If you are going to get a 10X zoom I would highly recommend getting something with stabilization.

The Panasonic FZ7 is about fifty bucks more and I think you would be a lot happier with it. If you want to have the Kodak EasyShare system the Z612 is about the same price online as the FZ7. Both are 12X.

good point about the stabilization....i bought an easyshare 850 last year for that reason....i'm happy with the camera...the software, tho, is a resource hog and not very intuitive...i'd recommend a card reader and picasa2

I have a Kodak with a 10x zoom and no stabilization whatsoever and it works fine. There are a few things about Kodak cameras/the Z710 I don't like, though. Some Kodak cameras is they take up to 1 1/2 seconds to focus, though there are multiple ways to keep it focused quickly, and this does not happen a lot. Also, the camera can be a bit slow.
