I installed xp with a fraud product key which I found on the net. I went to get the updates and got the error message product key validation failed or something like that. I have the original winXP CD and want to know how to change the product key (to the original one) without reinstalling XP.

thanks in advance for any help.

I suppose, my question here would be, if you have the original cd with valid product key, why in heavens earth would you be using one you found on the internet? And then to think you could get updates? You certainly have to be kidding........

That is a perfectly good question Alex ( and a rather odd response from you).

The original post makes no sense. Read the rules and don't insult the Moderators................

If no one made mistakes, these forums wouldn't be near as busy, nor as much fun. sponsor made a mistake and made a simple request for help. Aca's comment is totally useless, counterproductive, insulting and should be removed and he should be reprimanded.

Read the rules, don't insult anyone.

I'll beg to differ with you there Alex. What he did is illegal to begin with, and I could have just closed the thread!

Perhaps you missed the words FRAUD PRODUCT KEY??????? That is NOT a mistake, that was a blatent attempt at illegal activities and YOU know it

And I didn't insult anyone! I asked a legitimate question

If ANYONE should feel insulted here, it's certainly me by you!

A mistake is one thing..........Trying to repair something illegal is another. Buy posting ways to get around/repair an illegal "mistake" is what is counter productive.

No one has insulted anyone .........except you. (Candy "She")

She should be insulted not only by your comments, but also being called he. Besides, I fail to see how any of your input on this topic has been relevant, perhaps you should take your own advice and reprimand yourself.

I wanted to test the validity of the fraud product key against the microsoft windows update, and that's all there. I found myself middle of trouble and I asked for help.

Alex, I value your response. (post no. 3)

AcaCandy, I have nothing against you. The term "blatent attempt at illegal activities " ; it seems odd. (I value your role here as an administrator)

to all,
how do you define an Illegal activity ?. (be honest..)

"Fraud" would be a good start. You acknowledged it from the begining and then tried to justify it?

Even if you had stated your intention to "test", it is still illegal to do such a "test". What possible legal thing could you do with the answer to your "test"?
If it had worked w/o problems? Then what? spread it around?
Since it did not,why should anyone help you fix it?

Simple answer...format and start over legally.

Alex's anwer in post #3 doesn't help you at all with a "known fraudulent" product key. It is designed for those that have been duped by resellers. It basically tells you how to report yourself.

Incredible is all I have to say, then I am going to close this thread with a cut and paste of TECHGUY'S rules, not MINE, the OWNER OF THE SITE. If anyone is unhappy with my conduct or the rules of the forums, I suggest you cry to him.

Other Illegal Activities - As you might expect, we don't want anything illegal going on here. Users cannot post hacks, cracks, pirated software, or anything of the like. Furthermore, we do not allow instructions on how to complete illegal activities, such as pirating. Please don't ask for advise on using illegal software, as it will be removed.

As, you can see, I should have just REMOVED the post rather than allowing this banter.

Obviously you are aware there are other sites that this could have been posted on to begin with.
