I installed Windows XP Professional a few days ago. I went to play my Civilization III game and notcied things looked a little . . . different. The game runs in what I believe is 800x600. My standard desktop size is 1400x1050. Instead of switching to 800x600, my computer now puts what appears to be an 800x600 window within my screen, meaning I have a black box around my screen and a window within it. It does this for all apps that are running while the game is running. If I exit, everything switches back to normal.

To further complicate this question, when the game runs I (to contradict what i wrote above) it changes my desktop resolution to 1024x840 which i assume means the window is actually 640x320 that the game appears in. If i change my desktop to 1400x1050, my other programs look fine, but my Civ III is a 640x320 box in the upper right hand corner.

I know I haven't been very clear, but HELP!!!!!!!!!

look for an option within the game menu's to play full screen, if you can't find one try pressing alt and enter at the same time, it should toggle the window from windowed mode to full screen and vice versa.

I tried your suggestion - no luck. I've attached a print screen. The print screen only prints what is inside of the black box, so in the picture you can't actually see my problem. Notice the toolbar at the top of the screen -- that actually is about 1/4 down my LCD display (i have a laptop.)
