I noticed one of the options on the XP Pro disk is "repair". If I run this repair option, what exactly does it do? And, will I lose any information or programs? All help appreciated.

If you are referring to the recovery console that comes up if you choose repair from the first menu, then that is a command line interface that allows you to copy, delete, partition, format, etc.

If you are referring to a repair install of xp, it replaces system files and MAY overwrite drivers with native windows drivers. All installed apps and data should be untouched. As with any operation, backup anything you do not want to loose.
