XP reinstall new connections drivers?

529 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Rich-M
I've recently had to reinstall windows XP home edition which wiped out all my settings. I'm trying to reconnect my DSL box and am not getting anything. I chatted with an att 2wire tech support guy and he mentioned that because there are no tasks at all in the network connections folder I would need to install drivers? from the XP reinstall cd. I'm not sure what to do? I reinstalled XP from the recover disc.

Response: Do you see any problem devices in Device Manager that may need drivers?

I'm getting yellow question marks for ALL "other devices" which include ethernet controller, pci device, pci modem, etc. Do I need to dl drivers to make a connection? When I did the reinstall I used windows XP service pack 2.

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Just put the driver disk in and when it opens up start installing the chipset drivers first, then the buss drivers, then network drivers, the audio, video drivers and then any ones that have to be installed.
That you used a recover disc it should not have happen. Maybe it was out dated.

I recommend you go the PC's manufactures support web site and download the latest drivers and install them.

Good luck.
Right Dsl modem should hook right up, it is already configured. That sounds like a device driver such as ethernet card is missing...I would do as suggested and download all drivers for the system. Run, "devmgmt.msc", enter...any yellow "?".
