my computer wouldnt start even in safe mode and i tried to do system restore or recovery and it wouldnt work

i just got a c prompt in dos

windows 98 appears to be easier to do this

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe then hit Enter.
This will start system restore.

i guess the morons at microsoft couldnt spare the ink to print that in the 8 page manuel i got with the disc

one web site said do that at d or type some command
d or c?

i gave up too soon and just formatted and redid xp anew and lost the files which i really didnt need

i wonder why it stalled? i wonder if i had a virus-so far it seems to work ok
