I want to install Zone Alarm, how do I disable the built in firewall in XP Pro.

Start, control panel,admin tools, services and scroll down to alg(application layer gateway) and right click it and set to disable and apply.

Question.

Does the XP firewall disappear if you disable it? I disabled mine many moons ago, but now I can't find it if I wanted to turn it on...which I don't.

I followed motherboard's directions and it isn't even there. Then again, I may be missing something real basic.

hey Bill, goto start, control panel, network connections, right click on the connection you want to install the firewall on, goto properties, click on the advanced tab, place a checkmark in the box, and your XP firewall is on... you can goto the settings and tweak it if you like, just incase you run a ftpserver or the like..
