Hi guys,

Any help you can provide with this problem would be much appreciated.
I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out.
OS: Windows XP pro w/ service pack 2.
video card drivers: force ware 93.71.

Here is what happens:
- Upon doing nothing in particular, The picture on my monitor becomes distorted, the system hangs and I am forced to reboot.
I believe that this is indicative of the dreaded "infinite loop" nvidia driver error. A few months back, windows XP would
actually log the blue screen of death and I was able to submit an online crash analysis upon rebooting. The crash analysis
always had the same stop code: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER. Now however, the system simply hangs.
Mind you the symptoms are exactly the same as stated before: distorted screen for 3 seconds, no picture, followed by a
hanging system. I have ran driver cleaner several times and reinstalled the video card drivers. I have gone at most a month
without a single one of these crashes.
- I have since switched over to Zone alarm anti-virus from Norton because I believe Norton
to be too intrusive and hence the cause of the problem. Unfortunately the crash still occurs. My machine is usually on at least
2 or 3 days before one of these crashes occurs. I have never experienced it after an immediate reboot.
Back when I had Norton, the last program to generate an event in the log before the crash was ALWAYS Norton or a windows process.
My most recent crash has the windows security service taking action. I checked the windows update log and there are several entries
in there at the exact time of my crash( I can post these entries if you need to see them ). I do not know whether this is an issue of
hardware being stressed too much or a software complication. I believe it is a software complication.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks

I thought it was the video card drivers as well. Won't I lose a significant amount of functionality by rolling back my drivers to 84.21 though? I run some intensive games on this machine and I am worried about performance issues arising. From what I understand, the current 9X.XX series pushes the hardware much too hard. Should decreased performance be a concern of mine or is it not really an issue?
