from the start menu, right click, properties, customize, advanced, ---don't display control panel, and my computer.......but how do/can you lock users out from setting these back to display---if you can, or is there a way to require the start menu to require an adminstrator's password before opening? thx

Do you have home or pro? Pro has gpedit or group policy; this can be used to accomplish a number of "securing" tasks.

, both but only use the user accounts/internet access on the xp home computers.

If you want to use pro, then use the gpedit to stop access to control panel. With home, I do not know how you would secure it since I almost never use home.

Give them a limited user account. They shouldn't be able to change any major system settings that way.
You could also use the Shared Computer Security Toolkit.
