Hi, I am new. and not having my modem seen on the new hard drive setup of winxp. I started with my amd athlon +2000, 3...mb memory, 80g hd, a us robotics internal modem, a gravis blackhawk digital.

I was trying to get the computer to see the joystick. I never did get it. I took it to a friend's house who has sattelite internet. updated bios, cmos, all drivers. then it didn't see the dvd player nor the cd rom. Got a new hd, used the setup to make it boot off the cd and installed xp sp2 on it. Now it doesn't see the modem. the com says it is working fine. When I go to dial out it wont.

I can use the old drive to use aol, which I think is the worst hog next to Norton utilities, to access the internet. But still it doesn't see the cd,dvd, joystick.

on the clean install sometimes the mouse doesn't get installed on boot.

Any suggestions please?

PS, what is highjack this? how could I show all the processes running?

I used the the updates that I downloaded. I am thinking that I need to wipe my new hard drive and only use the stuff MS supplies with winxp. I am not sure if that is a good idea though.

The new side isn't goiing well, the old side doesn't see the cd or dvd rom. I stuck and the system icon shows in the hardware manager that the modem is there. The modem icon shows the modem is not connected. I didn't think that windows would see the modem for the system, but not for the modem part.

I was thinking about changing the irq for the modem, but I can't find anything. On the old side it shows as irq 12 and is changeable, but not on the new side.
