Would you mind giving me an expert quick review of my computer files.

I have been tormented by a computer problem the last several days which turned out to be a keyboard ruined from a long ago Dr.Pepper spill. The screen was in a continuous scroll mode no matter what you opened.
Another problem popped up during the course of things which was an illegal function by DW.EXE. I was introduced to your site when someone searched for "dw.exe" on Google and found your discussion with KeepItSimple (12-31-2002) and Rollin'Rog. I got the Spybot program and found some things it said were threats and got rid of them. I also got the 'Lurkhere' program and think I have my startup list attached to this request. After 4 years of really being on my own with the computer, I wonder if an expert would recognize obviuos problems that could help the performance of what has been a computer that I viciously describe as good for 1 hour of operation then 10 hours of repair.

The only current problems are that I can't shutdown through Windows because it freezes in the final screen "windows is shutting down now".
The other problem is Scandisk. Compaq could never tell me how to run Scandisk without it saying Scandisk has restarted 10 times do you want to continue receiving this message. Their advice was to run in Safe Mode where it does the same thing. It does say it has completed in the end, I just want someone to tell me if it does any good to run it with this message in it every time. It takes 3-6 hours for it to run.

You have a couple spyware programs. Please run Spybot Search And Destroy, go to the Online Tab, check for updates, download updates, then scan and click Fix Problems when its done.
I ran Spybot again and they said "congratulations no spyware was detected". Which ones do i need to remove?
Many of your startup programs are unneeded.

You can use Pacman's List of Startup Applications to help you determine what should stay and what should go.
Brendandonhu,
I went to that page and did the things as best I could. The downloadware search at the end turned up 5 things. The other words turned up nothing.
The restart function worked through Windows afterwards (it was not doing that prior to this) and on the restart it said "could not run DLL". I went to Microsoft and the search for updates froze and would not complete the search. Are the 2 related and what is wrong. Have I screwed something up?

Tony,
I guess this is where I expose how poorly spoked my knowledge wheel is of computers, I could not find the Pacman startup list with Google. I would like to find it however, do you have a site where I could find it?

Thanks so much for the help.
ProBow
ProBow see the underlined "pacmans list........." in tony's post go click on it, that is a link to the site.
Hi Folks,
Well here is another glitch with my computer apparently...there is nothing showing up above the line in Tony's reply, that apparently other people can see (Jimi"s apparently has the same thing that only shows a line on my computer as well).
Anybody got a clue?
Thanks,
ProBow
