Hi Faithful one,

i find that any *.doc extension will bring up MS-word,
which i think uses the same extension.

When i want to use Wordpad to view a document,
i go to start, programs, Wordpad,
and open Wordpad from there.

Then i use the 'File' top left in the Wordpad window,
'Open' then browse to find the document i want to open.

Thats the only way i know to get to a Wordpad (*.doc) file,

Regards, John :)

If its an attachment,
you could try dragging and copying it to desktop,
then changing its ext to txt,
then it should open in 'Notepad'

(thats if all else fails ... )

Faithful one,

Do you have MS Word? If so, then hold down your shift key and then right click on the .doc file you want to open. A menu should open. Select "open with". Scroll down to "WINWORD" and select WINWORD. Put a check in the box next to "Always use this program to open this type of file" Click OK.

Hmm...

It is an attachment ... yes ?
And you dragged it to desktop, and tried opening from there ... ?
And it tries to open in Wordpad, but can't ....

Possibly it is written in a format that Wordpad does not handle,
Wordpad only handles a few formats.
RTF rich text format
TXT system notepad
DOC - some formats of doc - some are meant for MSword (only ?)

I suggest that maybe wordpad doesn't handle the format that
this document is written in,
Try opening MSword (Start, programs, Microsoft Word)
then click on the 'File' top left,
Open, in the 'Look in:' bit, click on the little yellow folder-icon
to go up one level, keep going up one level until you get to desktop,
then in that box you should see an icon for this .doc file,
give it a double click and it should open in MSword.

If it doesn't then i dunno what to think !!

Regards, John :)
