Hi,
first time user.

My older Dell came with Works and Word 2000. I upgraded the PC to XP from 98. I reloaded Works and Word. All worked fine. Then suddenly Word 2000 won't open.
I get a message 'Word is encountering a problem and must shut down...you can save your work...send error report to MS....
Sometimes it offers to open in Word Safe mode.

I load, unload, load Word again, but no luck. My copy of Word 2000 is the original and the key product code gets entered, and the program shows as loaded on the hard drive.
It just won't work when I execute. The error code that is offered on the "problem " screen is long and refers to the "execute" file.

I tried going back to an earlier XP restore point but no luck.
It is as if Word is being locked out by the registry or something.

I also have Office 97 running but no change even when I remove that.

Any ideas.welcome.
Bob

Did you install XP to the same folder as 97? Not good...

If you did...

Remove 97 and XP.
Install 97 into default folder.

Install XP into C:\OfficeXP

or something like that.
