Won't wake up in sleep mode, CMOS checksum error on reboot

Hi all,

So a problem I've been having with my computer is that whenever I put it into sleep mode that it won't wake up. I will hit the spacebar to wake up it and I hear the power turn on to run, and then immediately shut off and it cycles doing this withotu being able to turn back on. It's done this twice now and I'm afraid if this may be a power problem--I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's just a computer update that made things janky.

Any help would be appreciated, as I work and do freelance on this computer. It's ancient, I know, but I'm hoping there's a workaround for this without me having to dish out my wallet on a new one.

Since this is a dell, it would really help if you posted the service tag#
Generally when you get a checksum error, the bios is not finding the hardware it expects to find.
What happens if you do not put the system to sleep; does it run without problems?

Service tag? Sure thing! Thanks for taking the time to help out:

Yup! It runs without problems if I just leave it on and run it. The problems seem to stem for when I put it to sleep (I only leave 1 chrome browser window open, so it's not like rebooting takes up a lot of time). I like putting it to sleep when I run out for groceries, that way I don't waste a ton of power. Used to work fine a month ago, but am unsure what the issue is.
It is possible a windows update caused this issue. See this quote from the support page for your system
Windows 10 is not supported on this product.View system requirements
This means that the mfg does not want to waste time/money writing drivers for obsolete hardware AND win10 has not been tested.

You can try testing your hardware; ie run memtest for the memory, test pw supply voltages under a load. Since this is a dell, there is no purpose designed monitoring software available like you would have with an asus, gigabyte, or other performance system. You can use something like hwmonitor64 to monitor voltages.

Cool thanks so much for taking the time to help out! So after running hwmonitor64 and just keeping an eye on voltages being normal/whatnot, would theoretically going back one update fix things? I have been using windows 10 on this computer for a couple of years now and there hasn't been a problem (now thinking about it) since last update. If there Is a hardware/voltage problem, should I just post to the hardware form?
You can uninstall an update however [unless the update is an optional one] it is going to be reinstalled at some point.
Monitor voltages under both a normal load and while running a stress test ie prime95, OCCT or other stress test.
Ok! So after doing a BIOS update, it seems to be back to normal! I tested the computer sleeping and it woke up right away!

Perhaps it was because I kept going thru windows updates withotu updating my drivers that it went wonky? Thanks a ton for the help!
A bios update does not really effect drivers however it [bios update] may provide more functionality with win10.
At least it is working (y)
