Hi, can anyone help me please?

I have read threads here that are beginning to send me round the bend.
I'm running Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9. Until Christmas I was able to play the Free CD that came with the 'Digital Photo' magazine without any problems. But since upgrading to WMP 9, it seems that I can no longer play .avi files(which the tutorials on the Digital Photo CD are!) After plowing through the threads, I've found that I need a certain codec to play the .avi files, namely the CRAM codec, also called the MSVC(microsoft video1)codec - which I have found comes with Windows 95 and Windows 98/98se. I have downloaded all the up-to-date codecs on the Microsoft Website, but to no avail. As I'm running windows xp, where can I get hold of this codec. I have trudged through google, but that particular codec seems elusive. I get the impression from the threads I've read here, that WMP9 and several earlier versions arn't compatible with .avi files, so how can I play the tutorials now? Any ideas and suggestions would most greatly appreciated.

Hi Rude

Thanks for replying. downloaded and installed codec, but it still didn't work. I have downloaded Gspot which tells me that the CRAM/MSVC codec isn't installed. I have tried several searches but have come up empty handed. All my friends have upgraded to WindowsXP and don't have any old operating system disks to be able to look for the codec. Any other ideas? ta in advance.....:)

I'm running Vista and can't run the video tutorials on the Digital Photo CD using Media Player but I found I can run them in Quicktime. But don't run Quicktime and try and load the file into it because it only seems to "see" part of the file. Make Quicktime the default program to run AVI's, in Vista you can right-click on the file and go to "properties" and if Quicktime isn't there to select you will have to "browse" and actually go and find the Quicktime program and select it as the program to run with AVI's.
