No and yes,the movies you are trying to watch may be encoded in a format that is not supported by WMP but you can find codecs that will allow you to watch them.
Alternatively, you can download a player that will play them.I use this player: http://www.divx.com/divx/

You can also download the DivX codec from the above site

thank you very much rude, that did the trick. i have another problem that doesnt deal with windows media and i was wondering if i would be able to post it in this forum. (gonna make a new thread)

it's about a video game and it says "Graphics services failed to initialize. Please make sure that your video card and drivers are correctly installed, and are compatible with Rise of Nations"

Have you played the game on your computer before? If not try opening the file to see if there any "read me" files,I suspect that you may have to change some settings for the game to run,or even download some new drivers for your graphics card.I had the same problem with a game that wouldn't play at lower screen resolutions(sound but black screen).I got new drivers for my graphics card and monitor and everything was fine.

First, which version of Direct X are you using now?

Second,You don't have to buy anything, you can download drivers from manufacturers and from some sites that specialize in supplying drivers. If you can give me the info on your graphics card and monitor I will find them for you.
