When I try to play some AVI video files, in Windows Media Player, I get a message that says "Cannot allocate memory because no size has been set"
I click on Web Help, and that says that is Error Message 80040212. But, they dont tell me why, or how to fix it.

Could someone tell me how to fix this, or what's wrong?

Thanks! Lola

Sounds like it's a MS Directx DirectShow error. Try this: Start, Run and type in "dxdiag". Click on OK. It should toss you to the System tab, and you'll see a meter running at the bottom. Click on Next page if prompted. Updating your Directx will likely resolve this issue.

What operating system do you have? Some older OS's don't play nice with newer versions of Windows Media Player and Directx.

hmm.. well my OS is ME and from what i've heard, it's not too compatible with much these days....

I did what you explained, although i'm not so sure that it actually updated anything...just kinda took me through a few next pages and then i hit exit.

Still can't play any of my .avi files... ho hum..

Don't give up :)

What version of Media Player do you have? Start, Programs, Windows Media Player. Then, click on Help, About Windows Media Player. What Version number?
