My preference of players is 6.4 but I will also sometimes use 7.1. Please tell me, what codec(s) should I have on my machine to fully use and enjoy these players. And as usual, TIA

Hey--we have a couple of posts in there!! I had forgotten that.
Thanks for pointing me there Moby. I had tried the WMPClassic but did not find too much success with it for some reason. Don't know why and it is/was a much smaller app.
How can I easily determine what codec version(S) I have presently installed?? I guess the codecs that are good for WMP6.4 are also good for 7.1.
I do not care to go to the 9 player at this time.

EDIT: Can the same codec version be installed over one that may be already installed? Any harm?
