Wireless network problem

1441 Views 20 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Yes Me
Ok here's the story:

I've got 2 pc's here, one of them is already succesfully connected to my wireless network.
The other one can't seem to do that..
It has a Conceptronic 54g wireless pci card built in.
It does see the network but it can't connect to it somehow..
I've tried to install the wireless card from my other pc in the problem pc and then it works flawless..
So the problem can't be the pc right?

So does anyone know what could be the problem?

I've tried to install the wireless card from my other pc in the problem pc and then it works flawless..
so why not try the faulty card in the other pC - reverse the above
so the new card does not work in any of your PC's - correct
but the OLd card works in both PC's - correct

I assume you have installed the driver for the new card
sounds like the new card is faulty

dont understand the built in comment though if post #4 is correct

- is this a laptop ???

try this using old card
to access the net

Free software to check signal strength of wireless is netstumbler 0.4.0 available for download from http://www.stumbler.net/

run and see it work on old card - then see what happens with the new card

also post details from device manager
start>
control panel>
system>
hardware tab>
device manager button>

network adapters
click on the + sign

post backs whats there

also any ! X or ?

-------

also
if laptop - the wireless can be switched on and off - some have a physical switch - some use F keys
See less See more
and i still dont understand how it can be that the card sees the network under available networks but can't connect to it..
Nore do I

the netstumbler figures are usually -ve

can you post results from device manager and ipconfig /all
TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
See less See more
what happens if you goto
netwrok connections
right click on the wirless connection

does it have enable at the top of the list - if so click on it
also in post #6

also
if laptop - the wireless can be switched on and off - some have a physical switch - some use F keys
im still confused
is the wireless built in or on a card
maybe try disable and then re-enable
also before that
post whats in device manager

start>
control panel>

hardware tab>
device manager button>

network adapters

maybe remove the device physically and uninstall all the wireless PCI cards you have in the device manager

then re-install physically and reload driver for it

and then re-install

and then re-install
as you only have one wireless device in device manager - just uninstall that one

otherwise I guess its a faulty card - which I sort of thought maybe the case in post one of the 2st posts when you said it does not work in two PC's but an old card does work in both

may be the windows and the card software are having problems are you using WZC or the card utility to manage the wireless

it may be worth trying each one on its own - i know with the intel theres a conflict with these
