I'm having an issue with WinXP SP2 where I get Virtual Memory low or gone errors; despite repeated attempts to resize and restart (including in Safe Mode) I still can't seem to eradicate the problem. I have 256Mb of RAM. I know I should get more and I plan to, but is there a way to fix this situation? TIA

Check this thread out. http://forums.techguy.org/t318129.html

As a temporary measure try setting the Min & Max values for the VM to 1000Mb each, press Set, when you have done so, Apply, OK etc.

It works for me. But I then order up some more RAM.

Apart from hardware, malware & virii problems, most performance problems can be solved by going up to 512Mb or more, depending on the max your computer can handle.

No one should be getting VM errors on a 256 box. So, this shouldn't be the cause (given you have lots of free space on your system disk).

This error can be "induced" by SpyWare or a virus.

Start by running an online virus scan

Download and run SpyBot and allow it to remove what it finds.

Then, download, install and run HiJackThis and copy/paste the log that it creates, back here for review.
