Windows XP Updates/Patches - can be deleted?

I have, like so many thousand others, update XP on a regular basis to try to keep the system stable (Thank you Mr. Gates) Now, when removing no longer wanted programs, I see a string of Windows XP Hotfixes. Can I delete them once they've been run to reclaim space on the drive or is it another one of those things that's just going to be there until? Thanks for your help, I know one of you "smarter than I" types will have an answer for me.

If you remove a hotfix or update your computer will no longer be protected from what ever threat that hotfix was correcting in XP. Remove at your own risk.
