All of a sudden my computer is having a really hard time loading windows. It starts up normally, gets to the loading screen (with the little blue bars going across the bottom) and will sit there looking like it's doing something for hours on end. I've left it alone for quite some time just to see if it will actually load eventually, but I've yet to see it finish. If I do a cold restart it recognizes that something went wrong and asks if I want to start in safe mode which (thank god) loads perfectly.

What I thought was causing the problem was a nasty 0kb file that was refusing any and all attempts made by me to delete it (it kept saying it was being used) so I downloaded a program that would delete it on the next restart. I restarted and just to be safe loaded back into safe mode. The file was gone and I ran adaware, spybot, and avg and then scheduled a disk check the next time my computer restarted. I restarted and, to my surprise, the disk check came up and immediately said that there were no errors on my hard drive (normally it takes quite some time). Then Windows booted! I was overjoyed thinking that one of the things I had done had managed to fix it. So I shut it down that night. This morning I discovered that the problem still persists.

Some things I've noticed is that during startup the loading bar pauses at certain points and when it starts up normally these points are different than when it starts up incorrectly. Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but my computer won't recognize my usb keyboard during startup which means that I can't select safe mode when it prompts me (which is extremely infuriating), so I've had to borrow a friend's keyboard that has a standard plug.

Any ideas how to fix this? I'm at college so being without a computer is very inconveniencing.
