I just finished putting together my PC from scratch and i attemped to install windows XP Professional on the brand new blank hard drive. i formatted the drive and all that jazz and when i was accually installing everything for xp i ran into a big, annoying problem. Just as it got into the "Finalizing Installation" process it crashed and restarted, no errors at all. Then when it read the hard drive it picked up the installation process back from the begining. Again and again it would reboot without warning or error message. I even tryed to delete my first, unfinished, windows files and start from scartch, but it didnt help. i need urgent help! how do i fix this problem??

Try booting from the Windows cd again and deleting all partitions.. then reformat again and re-install. Annoying I know but I once had a pc that it took 3 tries go finally get Windows installed.

Welcome to TSG....

What are you using to partition the hard drive?

Lt, do you by chance have another copy of Windows XP you can try and see if it goes through the process completely? Of course you won't be able to use or activate it but that should let you know if the problem is in your pc or the Windows cd you are using.

No Billy, I dont have another copy at hand right now. If the problem persists I will see what i can do to get another copy. Thanks for the link ozrom1e, but from the looks of it I have been formatting it properly.

I FINALLY got it installed! In case anyone else has this same problem heres what i did: instead of over writing the already partitioned space on your hard drive, try deleting it first. Deleting is one of the chioces you get, so do that instead of just over writing the half-way installed software. After its deleted and completely clean try the process over again! I dont know if it was shear luck, but try it! Thanks for all your help guys :D
