I am trying to use my computer to set up a server for something, and I am using a guide to get everything set up so it will work, and they require that you use My SQL 4.0.23 . So, I installed this, and all the other required files, and most (90%) of the .exe files I need to run are command prompts. The thing is that I cannot open them. Only some times can I open command prompts, and this isn't one of those times. As soon as I open it, it flashes open, my computer beeps, and then its closes before you can see/type/do anything with. I need to open some of them so I can add user names and passwords for my server. I solved this problem before by downloading a .DLL file for my windows folder. The thing is, i cannot for the life of my remember how I found it, or what it is called. I have reformatted and switched to a new PC, so it wouldn't be on my older computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, I completely forget what the .dll was called.. and no error message comes up when I run it, so I don't know which one I need. Anyone know what one I would need? Or any info I could give to help out?

If the error message comes up again, use your prt scr key then open it in your paint program and save it so you can refer to it. I hope you are able to solve the problem.

There hasn't been an error message that comes up, so I can't really do that.. :( computer just beeps, and the window flashes and closese
Do you mean the computer flashes a blue scrern and then reboots instantly before you can read the error that caused it?

Go to System Properties > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery Settings button. Uncheck the box for Automatically restart under System failure. That usually will cause the PC to halt and display the error instead of just rebooting.

If your PC fails again please post the complete Stop code, and if it recommends the failure was caused by some file or driver, post that information too.

Are you using Start > Run and typing cmd?

If you double click a command executable, it will just flash a window and go away. It has to be executed inside a command window.

You can also use Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

Navigate to the folder containing the executable you want to use, and then type the name and hit enter.

When I mean it flashes, i mean that the cmd window flashes and goes away, after my pc beeps once. What i'm doing to acheive this is , START-->RUN-->C:\mysql\bin\mysql -u root eq.

Try Start > Run type in cmd

When the command window opens, type in cd C:\mysql\bin\ and then try your commands.
