whats the make model of the PC
if you go into the bios/set up
whats listed there

under
control panel
system

whats listed there

do you have an intergrated Video card - ?? this will use memory

control panel
display
settings tab
adavanced button
adapter tab - this will tell us how much memory the adapter uses - if its intergrated than take this away from the 4GB - is that what windows reports

Sorry, I guess I should have given a little more info. I put the pc together.
It has a gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G motherboard and four one gig sticks of G.Skil RAM. The system properties showed 3.43 GIG until I disabled the 64meg on board video, now it shows 3.5. The BIOS does show all 4 gig.

What you are seeing is completely normal. Windows 32-bit can address 4GB of PCI address space which includes physical RAM plus virtual memory. Windows reserves 0.5GB for virtual memory leaving you with 3.5GB.
