i have downloaded the windows update for XP home and pro and I want to update a couple of friends/family PC's who are connected via a 56K modem.
Is they a utility i can also add to the CD which will scan the PC and then provide a list of updates and update from CD??? the way the microsoft web does.

otherwise it looks like I have to go through a large number of files and instal seperately without knowing if required or even if already insatlled.

I have the free CD from microsoft but thats only updated to sep03, however, that seems to scan and update automatically

In a word..No. I don't believe what you want is out there. Too many holes in XP and thus to many patches. The free update CD from Microsfot will save you some time but alas, there was another load of updates just this week. The update CD is good through Sept 2003 like you said. SP2 is due and it would be a good idea to get that CD, as dialup connections are really to slow to take that big of a download. Even on cable, it seems like forever to get all the updates as it stands now.

Fred Langa, of the Langalist newsletter as a real neat article of how to put updates on a CD that is as up to date as the day you burn it and then use it on slower connected computers. Do a Google for Fred Langa.
