I have had an occuring problem the last two days and am finally able to access a computer to ask this question. Everytime i try to boot up my computer it goes to a blue screen and says "Windows Protection Error. Please restart your computer."

I do not know what to do. I can get to safe mode, but but I cannot restore my computer (it tends to freeze in the middle of restoring) what else can I do?

H0ly crap! I have the same problem but how do you get into your desktop! Do you get these messages?

Windows protection error. Please restart your computer.

Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VPICD(01) + 00000DED to device "VMM ", service 19E. Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem.

To continue running Windows press Y or ENTER. To quit the current program press N. If you continue running Windows, your system may become unstable. Do you want to continue?

Press Y for Yes or N for No: Y
I press N and I get this message:

Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device number 1, service 19E. Your windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup Program again to correct this problem.

You need to give us more complete system information when posting a problem like this. Is it WinME and freezing when you do a "System Restore" or Win98 and freezing when you try a "scanreg /restore". And have you tried both?

If WinME, and System Restore is freezing, try running, from start > run:

scanreg /restore

choose a date prior to the problem from one of the first four dates. A restart is needed to complete the operation.

You may have hardware problems, such as faulty ram.

You can test ram using a diagnostic utility, or by swapping out sticks if you have more than one module.

Here are two test utilities:
