From the start menu I click on turn off computer and then click on the turn off icon.
The computer shows the logging off screen, the saving your settings screen but when it gets to the windows is shutting down screen it does not shut down. This does not happen every time but it is happening more and more. In order to shut down the computer I have to use the power button. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

You could also take a look here:

You will need to scroll down to SHUTDOWN HANGS ON “SAVING YOUR SETTINGS”
- This may or may not apply to your situation. You need to read the text carefully.

Also take a look at POWER DOWN ISSUES further down the page.

Check the Event Viewer for any error. There could be an application that isn't shutting down properly.

Click "Start" >> "Run"

In the Run box type in "eventvwr.exe" (without the quotes), click "OK".

In Event Viewer, look in both "System" and "Application" for any errors coinciding with your shutdown times.

If you find an error, double click on the error, this will open event properties. Look in "Description" for info. on the error. You will also see a Microsoft link to click on for more info.

Take note of the "Event ID", write it down.

You can post the Event ID to see if we can help or you can Google the Event ID for a possible fix.
